Friday's Short Review: Vision in White by Nora Roberts

Title
: Vision in White

Author: Nora Roberts
Series: Bride Quartet, book 1
Genre: Contemporaty Romance
Publisher: Penguin Group
Format: E-book
“#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts cordially invites you to meet childhood friends Parker, Emma, Laurel, and Mac the founders of Vows, one of Connecticut’s premier wedding planning companies.
After years of throwing make-believe weddings in the backyard, flowers, photography, desserts, and details are what these women do best: a guaranteed perfect, beautiful day full of memories to last the rest of your life.
With bridal magazine covers to her credit, Mackensie “Mac” Elliot is most at home behind the camera ready to capture the happy moments she never experienced while growing up. Her father replaced his first family with a second, and now her mother, moving on to yet another man, begs Mac for attention and money. Mac’s foundation is jostled again moments before an important wedding planning meeting when she bumps into the bride-to-be’s brother…an encounter that has them both seeing stars.
Carter Maguire is definitely not her type: he’s stable, and he’s safe. He’s even an English teacher at their high school alma mater. There’s something about him that makes Mac think a casual fling is just what she needs to take her mind off dealing with bride-zillas and screening her mother’s phone calls. But a casual Bride Quartfling can turn into something more when you least expect it. And with the help of her three best friends and business partners Mac must learn how to make her own happy memories…”
This is the first book I have read by Nora Roberts. I know it sounds almost impossible to believe, but it’s true.

Vision in White is book one of the series Bride Quartet. This series follow the life and search for love of four women, Mackensie, Emma, Laurel and Parker. They had been friends since childhood and now run together a successful wedding planning company called Vows. Vision in White is Mackensie’s book.

Mackensie “Mac” Elliot is the photographer of Vows. Even though she takes the most beautiful wedding pictures she doesn’t believe in marriage or love. Her parents have divorced and married almost as many times as they have changed cars. Her mother is a selfish, self-centered woman and her father is barely present in her life. With that example growing up is difficult to believe in love or marriage.
Carter is an English professor who has a crush on Mac since they met in high school. Now thanks to Carter’s sister wedding, they get reacquainted. He is not Mac's usual type but she feels immediately attracted to him, and that scares her. Carter is the safe and stable type, the kind of man that wants a commitment, something Mac thinks is impossible for her to do. But maybe this time things can be different, if she just opens herself a little a gives themselves a chance.

It was a little bit difficult for me to like Mac. She was too stubborn at a times and a little bit drama queen too. I know dealing with her mother is a difficult task but she made everybody paid when she was in her moods. She is one of those demanding friends that would drain your energy. At the end she kind of found “the light” but it was not enough to like her.

Carter is a typical beta hero. He is smart, cute, considerate, clumsy and very, very, very patient. I really like his nerdy side and enjoyed a lot the scenes in which he is fighting with his nerves.

The friendship between Parker, Emma, Laurel and Mac is what made this book. They portrait what friendship really is. They love each other, and have their differences but at the end they are always there for each other.

My final though: Vision in White is a light, enjoyable read with some problems. The biggest I found is that the romance was not believable and feel precipitated. Mac and Carter met and soon after they are in love. I didn’t know or felt when it happened; they just met, have coffee and are in love. Maybe with Carter can be a little bit more believable because of the crush factor but with Mac it feel completely lacking of deep.
I will read the other books in the series, I think they will be better that this one (for me), just because I liked the other girls more than Mac.

My Verdict: 3 ½ Paws
