“During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend the throne...
Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's the one sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago.
Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them- a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.”
Storm’s Heart starts immediately after events in Dragon Bound.
Two hundred years ago, princess Niniane Lorelle’s uncle, Uriel murdered her parents and siblings and claimed the throne for himself. Naniane was able to escape and find protection with the Wyr demesne. While living with the Wyr she assumed the new identity of Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle and worked for Cuelebre Enterprise as the P.R. representative of the company. After the death of the Dark Fae King Uriel Niniane decides to come out to the public and announces who she really is, the heir to the Dark Fae Throne. Some magical tests confirmed her identity and after a conversation with Dragos, the most powerful Wyr in the planet (and our hero from Dragon Bound) it is decided she should travel alone from New York to Chicago to meet with the representatives from The Dark Fae for the arrangements to her ascension to the throne. She travels to Chicago alone because she doesn’t want to involve the Wry with the Dark Fae politics.
Couple of days later a video posted in Youtube shows Niniane been attacked by three members of the Dark Fae. Thanks to the training she received during her 200 years with the Wry and to her poison stilettos she is able to kill them. Now, nobody knows where she is. She has disappeared after the fight.
After seeing the video Dragos sends Tiago Black Eagle to track Niniane, and bring her back to New York.
Tiago also known as Dr. Death is head of military operations for the Wyr demesne and one of the best trackers in the world. Couple of hours after arriving in Chicago Tiago finds Niniane in a cheap motel, she is drunk and injured; she was stabbed during the fight. Seeing the tiny little fae injured awakens in Tiago his most primitive instinct of protection. He declares he won’t leave her alone and become her protector shadowing her every move. Niniane wants and appreciates the protection Tiago offers her, but if he wants to stay with her and keep her safe he has to play by her rules. Tiago finds Niniane an infuriating sexy little woman who arouses in him feelings he had never felt before. He acquiesced in her requests just to be able to stay with her and keep her safe.
I loved Tricks aka Niniane in Dragon Bound, she was funny, spirited and smart. And was looking forward to read her story.
In Storm’s Heart Niniane needs to leave Tricks behind, she is going to become the Queen of the Dark Fae and needs to start behaving accordingly. However much she tries Tricks is always under the surface, and I really loved that about her. She is still as charming as ever but now she is a more responsible version of herself, one that has to think about the welfare of other before hers, but still she is the funny and spirited woman we met in Dragon Bound. She has insecurities and doubts but she has a strong character, and for her there is not other option than to go forward. She may have feeling for Tiago and may want to be with him, but she knows that if he doesn’t respect her opinions and let her do what she has to do he is not the man for her.
I’m a sucker for alpha males. You give me a beta male and I will be yawning trough the pages but you give me one like Tiago, who is described as a Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) look-alike and I will have to wear a bib while reading the book for all the drooling I will be doing. On the beginning Tiago had a little bit of a caveman behavior, Niniane is awaking in him instincts and feelings he didn’t know he had and he is just reacting to them without thinking. If for him were he would keep Niniane wrapped in bubble wrap, so nothing might happen to her. But when he realizes his behavior is pulling Niniane away, and what she really needs is a real partnership not a bossy mate, he changes and gives her exactly what she needs, while still being a very strong and protective man. *swoon and drools*
Niniane and Tiago have met before but they had never gone beyond couple of short conversations/fights during the 200 years Niniane spend with the Wyr. Now they find themselves attracted to each other in a very difficult moment. But even though the times are hard they make the relationship a believable one with lots of banter and humor and with a sexual tension of the charts.
In Storm’s Heart we see again Rune and Arya the Harpy. Rune is the same sexy, caring and powerful man we met in Dragon Bound. But Arya made me changed my opinion of her drastically. I really didn’t like her in Dragon Bound but in Storm’s Heart we see more of the real her and let me tell you she is awesome and I can’t wait to read her story.
In this book Mrs. Harrison also introduces us with a new race, the Vampyre and with them their queen Carling. Carling is a very intriguing woman, she is very powerful but I felt her full of sorrow too. She is going to be the heroine and Rune’s love interest in the next installment Serpent’s Kiss.
The world Mrs. Harrison created is very rich and vivid. I loved how she interacts Wry with Vampyres and Fae and even a Djinn. I would have liked to know more about the Fae land of Adriyel and the Dark Fae Court.
Even though we had Rune and Arya I miss the rest of the New York gang, also I would have loved to see more of Pia and Dragos.
All in all I really loved Storm’s Heart, I loved its characters, its well-developed plot and creative world. I think Storm’s Heart is a great addition to a great series. A series that has quickly become one of my favorite Paranormal Romance series and one I cannot recommend enough.
I will be looking forward for October 4th to get my greedy hands on Rune, pardon, Serpent’s Kiss.
