Author Interview & Giveaway: Amanda Carlson - Full Blooded Blog Tour

Today I have one of my favorite authors visiting my blog, Mrs. Amanda Carlson. She was so nice to answer some of my questions about her new Jessica McClain Series and some writing and books relating questions.

It’s not because she is here today, but I really loved her and her books. You will be able to read my 5 Paws review of her latest book Full Blooded next Friday 7th of September.

1.   What about werewolves captivated your attention?
I loved reading hot-blooded supes, so writing about wolves was a natural choice for me. I love Pack dynamics and all the bonds that shifters form. Shifters are super fun to write, too! Once Jessica’s story played out in my head, I knew I was in love.

2.   Why create a world where there are no female werewolves?
Wolves to me are very dominant. It made sense that they would be an all male society. They mate with human woman, but can only make a male child. I could see it. So what happened if you threw a wrench into their system and had something happen that shouldn’t? Chaos? Fear? I loved writing the unknown.

3.   Do you have a writing method, or is it a sudden inspiration?
I’m very much a seat-of-your-pants writer. I let the story take me where it wants to and it always feels like a thrill ride.

4.   Do you write your chapters in order?
Yes. I write a rough draft all the way through. Take a break. Then go at it again to make it shine. Then again. And again. And again. It takes a long time and a lot of hard work to make a story shiny.

5.   Do you base your characters in people you know? Or are they merely fictional?
They are all fictional. They come into my brain fully formed, and usually with names. They are their own personalities, every one.

6.   What inspired you to develop your characters the way you did?
I’m writing characters I’d like to hang out and have a drink with at the local bar. When they chat in my mind, I like them all and see how they value each other. They genuinely care about each other and it’s fun to write.

7.   Which book was your favorite read this summer?
Amanda Bonilla’s SHAEDES OF GRAY. She is amazing!

8.   Which author would you like to meet? (Even if he or she is deceased).
I’d love to meet Georgette Heyer. I think her work is fantastic. I collect it and it’s one of the few I will re-read. Meeting Tolkien would be exciting as well. I’d love to know what was ticking in his mind.

9.   If you had the option to sell the rights to turn your book into a movie or a TV series, what would be your preference and why?
I’d love to see something I created on the big screen. That would be crazy fun.

10. What can we expect in your next book, Hot Blooded?
Jessica is on the journey of her life in HOT BLOODED. She has to get her guy, defeat her nemesis and figure out who and what she is. It’s a mad race to get to the end, full of lots of fun twists and turns. I was a blast to write.

Thanks so much for hosting me! I had a blast. I look forward to seeing you again in the Spring when HOT BLOODED releases.

Thanks to you for giving me the opportunity of having you on my blog, as always it has been a pleasure working with you.

  5. I was so disappointed by Georgette Heyer. I read most of Cotillion. I will likely try her again at some point in the future because so many people admire her. Maybe I tried the wrong book.

    1. I forgot to answer how I like my werewolves...
I dislike the Alpha personality. Tend to think of them as alpholes, except Adam in the Mercy Thompson series. I tend to like to hear about other pack members besides the Alpha. I like to hear the other stories.

  8. I like my Werewolves very Alpha, my favorite would be Bran Cornucopia from Patrician Briggs' Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega series. He has a quiet power about him, he doesn't have to be in your face about it because he is THE top dog. His arrogance is unbending but he has every right to be. Thanks for the giveaway.
