“Never Seduce a Scot features a remarkable woman whose rare gift teaches a gruff Scottish warrior how to listen with his heart.

Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty—unprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions.

Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.”
Never Seduce a Scot is the second book in The Montgomerys and Armstrongs series by Maya Banks.

King Alexander II is tired of the feud between the Monrgomerys and Armstrongs clans, he sees a marriage between the clans as the only option for peace. He orders the marriage of Laird Montgomery (Graeme) with Eveline, the only daughter of Laird Armstrong.
Monrgomerys and Armstrongs can’t believe the King is forcing them into this marriage but knowing there is no way for any of the clans to do otherwise they start to make preparations for the wedding.
Graeme has heard all kind of things about Eveline and can’t believe the King is forcing him to marry a daft woman; he could never have heirs with a woman like her. The Armstrongs are also in revolt, since her horse riding accident three years back Eveline hasn’t been the same and her family has done everything in their power to protect her, but now thanks to the king’s decreed they have to give her to their enemy clan.
Accepting his fate Graeme goes to the Armstrongs stronghold to get his bride, what he wasn’t expecting was Eveline to be so beautiful, he swears to protect her and care for her. Deep down he knows Eveline is innocent and she doesn’t have anything to do with the hate he has for her clanmates.
After her riding accident Eveline didn’t become daft as everybody thinks, she is deaf; she has kept this a secret because people believing she was daft help her to break her betrothal to a man she hated and was afraid of marrying. Now she is supposed to marry another one, an enemy of her clan, but after meeting Graeme and feeling the deep sound of his voice she can’t help but feel attracted and intrigued by him.
Starting a new life in the Monrgomerys stronghold is harder than Eveline thought, even though Graeme has done everything in his hands to make her feel welcome his people can’t forget she is an Armstrong and are making her life as miserable as possible, but Eveline is nothing but persistent.
Graeme has felt attracted to Eveline since the first moment he saw her and now that he has spent sometime with her and has discovered she is deaf and no daft he is happy to have her as his wife. She told him why she used the daft ruse, a reason that broke Graeme’s heart; he has promised her to protect her but sometimes promises are difficult to keep and this one was one of them.

Eveline was an amazing character, a smart woman that used what she had in hand to protect herself from an evil man, but at the same time she didn’t let her disability rule her life. I loved how she did the best with her circumstances and went the extra mile to try to be accepted by people that saw her as the enemy. I also loved how she proved and showed her love for Graeme, she was not only strong but also very smart, a perfect heroine.

Oh Graeme! He is a dreamy hero, I loved him, I loved that even though he hated the King’s decreed and he was marrying the daughter of his enemy he always saw her as innocent. He is strong, smart and a protector at heart. He lives for his people and now that he has found love in Eveline he lives for her *swoon*.

We also meet Graeme’s brothers Bowen and Teague, they didn’t want eveline in their clan but after meeting her they liked her, they also accepted her because she was important to Graeme. They are loyal to their clan and to their Laird. Graeme’s sister Rory was super sweet, she was the first person to accept Eveline; based on that acceptance they developed a nice relationship of understanding and friendship.
In general they all were great and made the story a better and more interesting one. I’m glad next book of the series, Highlander Most Wanted, will be Bowen’s book.

I really loved this book, or should I say audiobook, yes, this is my first review of an audiobook. As I said I loved this book, in great part I think it was thanks to the narrator, Kristen Potter. Mrs. Potter did an amazing job bringing the characters to life. The accents, the different voices and characterizations were masterfully done. Of course, a narrator needs good material to bring it to life and Maya Banks just gave it to her with Never Seduce a Scot.

This was my first book by Maya Banks and I can guarantee you it won’t be my last. I recommend this book to all historical romance lovers or anyone who wants to read a beautiful romance story with strong characters and nice and interesting setting.

My Verdict: 5 Paws
