“In a trade-off she's lived to regret, Emily Castle left home years ago to become an interior designer. The youngest of three sisters, Emily desperately wanted to prove herself. Success, though, came at the cost of leaving behind the man she loved.
For Boone Dorsett, losing Emily left his heart shattered, but another woman was waiting in the wings. Now a widower with a young son, Boone has a second chance with Emily when a storm brings her home. But with his former in-laws threatening a custody suit, the stakes of loving her are higher than ever.
Will fate once again separate them-or is the time finally right for these two star-crossed lovers?”
Sand Castle Bay is the first book in the new Ocean Breeze series by Sherryl Woods.

Ten years ago Emily Castle left her high school sweetheart, Boone Dorsett, behind to make a life for herself, hoping to one day reunite again. What she didn’t expect was for him to marry so soon after their breakup.
Boone was completely devastated after Emily left him; he found solace in Jenny’s arms and no believing Emily would ever return marry Jenny soon after.
Emily’s heart shattered when she learned about Boone and Jenny’s marriage, she always thought he’d wait for her.
A hurricane comes to the coast of Sand Castle Bay and Emily and her sisters Gabi and Samantha come to the aid of their grandmother, Cora Jane. This is the first time Emily returns to Sand Castle Bay in ten years and the last thing she was expecting was to find that Boone is not only very close to her grandmother but also that he is now a widower with a little son.
Emily is a very successful L.A. interior designer and doesn’t need any complications in her life, especially from the man that broke her heart. She will help her grandmother and leave again as she did many years ago.
Boone hasn’t been able to forget Emily and feels guilty because despite having loved Jenny he couldn’t give her all his heart. He never thought that seeing Emily again would affected him so much, but now he has a son, B.J., and needs to think about him. He knows Emily will leave again and the last thing he wants is for B.J. to get close to her because she will break his little heart as she did to him all those years ago.
Fighting against the attraction they still feel is not an easy, especially with Cora Jane’s matchmaking skills.

I have read couple of books by Sherryl Woods, I find her romances entertaining and easy reads. This was the same case with Sand Castle Bay.

Both Emily and Boone hurt each other because they weren’t clear when they broke up. Emily thought something and Boone thought something completely different. Now they have the opportunity to be honest and realize their mistakes. Life is giving them a second chance, the road won’t be easy but if there is love and they are willing to do some sacrifices, everything is possible. That is the message of this book; with love and wiliness everything is possible.

I liked Emily, but sometimes I thought she was sacrificing too much while Boone was just demanding things from her and no doing much on his side. I loved how she was with B.J., her grandmother and with her sisters.

As I just said, on the beginning I didn’t like Boone much because he was demanding things from Emily while he was doing nothing. At the end he did what I was expecting from him and made me believe in a real future for them.

Mrs. Woods did a great job while writing B.J., he brought a lot to the story while always being who he was supposed to be, an innocent and loving boy.

Cora Jane was a fun addition; she is a meddling grandmother with good intentions and wise as her yeas. I loved that she never forced things between Emily and Boone; she just set things for them to act upon, and it was always up to them.

Emily’s sisters Gabriela (Gabi) and Samantha are very different, not only personality wise but also in their lifestyles. Despite living far from one another there are very close and will be always there for each other. The following next two books in the series will be their books. Wind Chime Point (April 30th) will be Gabi’s story, and Sea Glass Island (May 28th) will be Samantha’s.

Even though I like and enjoyed reading Sand Castle Bay I have two little problems with it. The first one is that the conflict regarding Boone’s mother in law was unrealistic. I understand that she wanted to make his life as difficult as possible but legally she just couldn’t. In my opinion he gave it too much power when in reality she didn’t have any. My second problem was that while an enjoyable read Sand Castle Bay didn’t bring anything new to the genre. It felt almost as if Mrs. Woods thought, “If the formula works don’t try anything different”. Still I enjoyed reading it and left me wanting to read next books, Wind Chime Point and Sea Glass Island. So, I guess Mrs. Woods was right, the formula works.

My Verdict: 3 ½ Stars

Other books in the series
