“The darkest secrets are the hardest to unearth.
After her last mission tested the limits of her humanity and took her out of this world, Secret’s friends, determined to keep her safe from her old nemesis Alexandre Peyton, keep ushering her from one babysitter to the next.
Couch surfing would be a lot more fun if Alexandre would let up on her long enough to allow her to get in some alone time with her lovers. Including Holden, her self-appointed shadow.
As if living out of coffin isn’t bad enough, Secret literally brings down the house while hunting a rogue, causing the council to exile her from New York—for her own safety, of course.
With her list of people to trust getting shorter and shorter, Secret ends up embroiled in a mystery to find a vampire warden gone AWOL and a missing artifact. Things go from bad to worse when she falls into the hands of a man who will prove that humans can be the worst monsters of them all.
Warning: Contains a cross-country journey, an unexpected family reunion, heated lovers’ embraces and a hell of a lot of trouble.”
Secret Unleashed is the sixth book in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean.
Secret Unleashed starts couple of months after the events in Grave Secret (previous book). Secret’s friends are trying to keep her safe; they are taking turns staying with her in case crazy ass Alexander Peyton comes for his revenge.
Secret knows her life is at peril and they are just trying to help, but she is tired of the situation. After doing something she shouldn’t have done she landed in jail.
Sig knows Secret needs to be kept busy and sends her and Holden to California to investigate the disappearance of an artifact.
What should have been an easy job takes Secret to a place where she would have to leave her humanity behind to survive, a place that will leave her marked forever.
Every time Sierra Dean announces a new book I hear a choir of angels in the sky, but at the same time I worry because Sierra Dean is one of those authors that is not afraid of passing her characters through a grinder and then bathing them in alcohol and sprinkle them with salt. I’m not saying she enjoys making her characters suffer
yes, I’m saying just that. I’m just saying that she’s
not afraid to go the extra mile and making us suffer. What I’m always
sure is that I will get apart from suffering a great book that will have
me glued to its pages and will leave me wanting for more, that was the case
with the previous five books in the series and that was the case with Secret Unleashed.
Secret has come a long way since Something Secret This Way Comes (first book), we have seen her mature and evolved page after page becoming the kickass heroine we all have learned to love and admire. After reading this book and everything Sierra Dean
aka Evil Author put her through I can’t help it
but love her and admire her even more.
Secret’s men are still around her, she hasn’t made a decision yet, but the time is coming for her to decide and if I’m honest I worry about who is she going to choose.
Holden is very present in this book, as always he’s there every time Secret needs him and his love and dedication for her couldn’t be clearer than in this installment. Team Holden Forever!
Desmond is not as present, but he’s there in the background. He also loves Secret but (in my opinion) his situation as a pack member is a limitation to their relationship and I can’t really see a clear and easy future for Secret with him. Team Holden Forever!
Lucas is barely present, but in the little we see him a big and important question gets answered. I had hoped it wasn’t what it is, but it is and now we need to see what Secret is going to do about it. Too cryptic? I know and I’m sorry, but I don’t want to give spoilers away.
In this installment we also learned the reason behind Sig’s interest in Secret, it was a nice twist in the story and something I kind of guessed after certain clues in previous books. Still, I really liked this new development and I can’t wait what else is in store for them now that their “connection” is known.
As I said before, Sierra Dean is an
Evil author that is not afraid of taking her characters
through dark and difficult paths, she achieves this thanks to the villains her deranged
gifted mind creates, and with the villain of this installment, The Doctor, she
not only topped her previous bad guys but many, if not all the villains I have
ever read. The creepiest factor about The Doctor is that Sierra Dean made him
so real that is so easy to believe a man like him can really exist.
Amazing characters, a plot that surprise you at every turn and a storyline so complex and well thought that will leave you in awe of the imagination and creativity of the author. Secret Unleashed confirmed once again why Sierra Dean is one of my top 5 favorite authors.
There is not much to say in a review after six books of awesomeness, the only thing left to say is: I can’t recommend enough this book and this series, trust me, you need to read it. Secret McQueen is a series that needs to be read in order so I don’t recommend you to start with this book.
