Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers.

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.

Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.

Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.
A Curse Awakened is a prequel novella in the Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson.

In A Curse Awakened the Wird sisters are younger and in a sense more innocent (than the girls we know and love). They are fresh after graduation and haven’t moved to Tahoe yet. Their powers are weak and unreliable, for that reason they are afraid to use them. After some research and with the help of their friend, Danny, they realized their powers are bound, luckily for them Danny is the scholar type and finds the solution to their problem. A solution that takes them to a place where they will learn more about their roots and their maternal family. There, they will find some good things and others better left untouched.
They may not be yet the strong women we know, but still they kick ass whenever is necessary and in this installment the ass that needs kicking comes with fangs.

Even though they are a lot younger in this novella, we clearly see the characteristics that make each sister different and unique. Also, it’s pretty clear that despite not having many things in common, their sister-bond is as strong as ever.

In this prequel we get to see the incursion of the Wird girls to the paranormal world. We also see them learning about their curse and we see them confronting the family that cursed them and abandoned them. There is one character that was introduced in this novella that I feel we haven’t seen the last of him. I’m almost sure we’ll see him again in book(s) to come.

A Curse Awakened has everything I love about this series, strong and well-depicted characters, non-stop action, snarky humor, and a mix of rare legends and mythology.

Cecy Robson’s writing is excellent as always; she has a gift with words that easily captures the reader and traps him/her between the pages.

A Curse Awakened can be read as the first book in the Weird Girl series, but I recommend you to read it after you have read a couple of books in the series to get the full effect of how much the Wird girls have changed and grown throughout the series.

A Curse Awakened is a novella that packs a punch and it is the perfect appetizer to keep us satisfied while we wait for the release of next book in the series, A Cursed Bloodline, to be release on November 18th.

My Verdict: 4 Paws

Other books in the series
A Curse Awakened (Prequel)
The Weird Girls (prequel)
A Cursed Moon (Novella)
A Cursed Bloodline (November 18th)

    1. Yes, it was nice to see them before all the craziness that is their lives.

  2. This made me even more curious about their parents, esp their dad

    1. For what I understand the father was a "gringo", that's why the mother had "problems" with her family.
