My Favorite Books & Audiobooks of 2015

2015 was a year of changes for me, I stopped enjoying genres I used to love and series and authors I used to adore.
Another thing that changed for me was that I started to enjoy listening to audiobooks more than reading. I realized that I love I can do other things while enjoying a nice book, while when I’m reading the only thing I can do is read.

Until today I have read and listened to 210 books. I’m in the middle of one book, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it before the year ends, if I can, it’ll be 211 books total. From those 100!!! Yes!! 100 are audiobooks.

Selecting my 10 favorite books wasn’t easy, I divided it by 5 audiobooks I listened and 5 books I read. The first ones are the audiobooks. I cheated a little bit here, I have 7 audiobooks in the list, but 3 belong to the same series, I’m counting the series as one, they are mark with an (*). I also have honorable mentions for both the audiobooks and the books.
The books are organized in chronological order, starting with the ones I listened/read first in 2015.

Blurb Blitz & Giveaway: A Curse Unbroken by Cecy Robson

Fans of Keri Arthur will love the Weird Girls, four sisters cursed with supernatural powers. In Cecy Robson’s latest urban fantasy romance, the search is on for an unholy grail, while evil is licking its wounds—and looking for revenge.

The preternatural world is changing. After a massive magical throwdown tore apart the established order, the dark elements are rebuilding their ranks unopposed. Celia Wird’s world is changing, too. She’s the mate of the pureblood were Aric, and his Warriors are honor-bound to protect her family as she and her sisters recover from unimaginable horrors.

Celia hesitates to reveal the true extent of the Wird sisters’ trauma, but they aren’t the only ones keeping secrets: Aric and the werewolf Elders are tracking a stone that grants limitless power. So is a tough coven of witches. Then Misha, a master vampire with his own plans for the stone, sends Celia after it. Can she and the vamps beat both the weres and the witches to the treasure before it falls into the wrong hands?

Fearing for Celia’s safety, Aric begs her to stay out of the hunt. What they don’t realize is that they’re the ones being hunted. But Celia’s ready to prove that she’s not easy prey.

Short Review: The Awakening by Adair Hart

Title: The Awakening
Author: Adair Hart
Series: Evaran Chronicles, book 1
Genre: Sci-Fi
Publisher: Quantum Edge Publishing
Source: Review copy from publisher
Format: E-book
A heavily damaged alien research vessel in the Andromeda galaxy is hurtling toward a planet. The aliens should not be there. They have been traveling through space and time, abducting apex predators and sticking them in virtual simulations for research. The problem is the virtual simulations are powering down, unleashing the specimens on the ship.

Dr. Albert Snowden and his neice, Emily, were abducted by the aliens. They are visited by a mysterious being named Evaran in the last minutes of the virtual simulation. He has decided to interfere in this timeline-changing event and rescue them.

Stopping the ship from crashing into the planet before getting to Evaran's ship is one issue. Navigating the apex predators on the loose is another. To make matters worse, Jerzan Graduul, infamous leader of the Bloodbore mercenary pack, has boarded the ship in search of salvage opportunities, and has noticed Evaran's ship. The hunt begins.
The Awakening is the first book in the Evaran Chronicles by Adair Hart.

I love sci-fi books and after reading the blurb I thought I found a book I could really enjoy, sadly The Awakening was not what I was expecting. The story starts interesting enough with a Doctor Who kind of feel; but unfortunately soon after I was bored and uninterested. My problem was that I found the characters very stereotypical, the story very simple and unimaginative, and I also found the pace a bit uneven.

I think Hart had a good idea; The Awakening could have been a great and fun story, but (in my opinion) it wasn’t developed properly. Maybe future books would be better, but I’m not planning to continue with the series. The only thing that could make me change my mind is if one of my trusted reviewers really recommends next book, The Fredorian Destiny, until then this is it for the Evaran Chronicles and me.

Some of the reviewers really liked The Awakening, so maybe it was an “it’s not you, it’s me” case. I leave it up to you to decide.

My Verdict: 2 ½ Paws
Other books in the series
The Awakening
The Fredorian Destiny
